‘Love what you do’ or ‘Do what you love’?
An effective message no doubt! It basically simplified the dream:
Have the courage to follow your passion, and the rest is sunshine and rainbows.
The advice worked for Tiger Woods, Steve Jobs, and Elon Musk. Why wouldn’t it work for you too?
But we all know the truth, chasing your passion does not guarantee success, it doesn’t guarantee anything.
When you get completely exhausted from your routine 9 to 5 corporate jobs then follow your passion.
Passion is a guide, but not the journey itself. So here are the 5 brutally honest truths about following your passion that very few will tell you.
1. Passion does not change the workload
Who’s passionate about football but doesn’t bother to study film?
Who calls themselves a writer but quits after a publication rejects an article.
Who’s passionate about the outdoors but doesn’t care to learn how to build a shelter?
Passion does not shelter anyone from the hours of research, the agony of the first draft, the grit.
2. Passion takes time
The number doesn’t matter. A deep interest might jumpstart a passion, but will you put in the time?
Passion takes years to develop. Most people don’t have a moment. of epiphany. They find something that excites them and hones their craft till it becomes a passion.
Work to find your thing, work to master your thing, work to pass on what you learned.
3. Your Passion will build you
Passion will point you in the right direction, but there’s no radar alarming you to the snakes, deserts, chasm along the way.
That knowledge comes from putting your head down and doing your homework.
4. There’s a ton of competition in almost every Passion
What makes a dream job?
A job that pushes boundaries. The control over how and when you work. An accurate observation. When you think about your passion, a combination of these traits will likely surface.
These types of jobs are scarce. A ton of people going after the gig and only so many people to consume it. High demand, low supply.
What can we do?
Sandeep Maheshwari says, “If you are searching for that person who will change your life, take a look in the Mirror.”
